How to Install Bamboo Composite Cladding

Bamboo composite cladding is installed directly onto a wall frame or battens using either a tongue-and-groove system (Wide Overlap) or a hidden fastener system (Slatted Panel). Battens should be fixed vertically at maximum 600mm intervals to ensure a stable, even surface. A small expansion gap of 3–5mm at the ends of each board is recommended to allow for thermal movement in Kenya's and South Africa's climate. The lightweight profiles make handling and installation straightforward for experienced builders and contractors. For technical guidance or installation support, contact our team directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Slatted Panel, Wide Overlap and Fluted Wall Panel?

The Slatted Panel is an open-profile exterior cladding board designed for facades and boundary walls, with a contemporary linear appearance. The Wide Overlap is a solid, lapped profile suited to full wall coverage on exterior surfaces, offering strong weather protection. The Fluted Wall Panel is an interior profile with a textured, ribbed surface designed for feature walls in modern residential and commercial spaces.

Can bamboo composite cladding be used on exterior facades?

Yes. Both the Slatted Panel and Wide Overlap profiles are designed for exterior use, including building facades, garden walls and boundary walls. They are UV-stabilised and weather resistant, performing reliably in the sun, rain and humidity typical of East Africa and South Africa without warping, cracking or requiring repainting.

Does bamboo composite cladding require a frame or substructure?

Yes. Cladding boards are fixed to a timber or aluminium subframe mounted to the wall surface. The subframe creates a ventilated cavity behind the boards, which helps manage moisture and extend the lifespan of both the cladding and the wall behind it. Our team can advise on suitable fixing systems for your project.

How does bamboo composite cladding perform compared to fibre cement or painted render?

Unlike fibre cement, bamboo composite cladding does not require painting or recoating over time. Unlike painted render, it will not peel, crack or stain. It maintains a consistent wood-like appearance year after year with minimal maintenance, only occasional cleaning with water is needed.
