We’re proud to share that We Do Bamboo was recently featured in the Daily Nation's Property section (May 8, 2025), highlighting our journey and impact in promoting sustainable bamboo construction materials in Kenya.

A Vision Rooted in Local Impact
During the interview, our CEO Arthur de Leeuw shared how the idea for We Do Bamboo was born after seeing the untapped potential of bamboo in Kenya. Despite Kenya having over 140,000 hectares of bamboo plantations, much of it remains underutilized due to lack of local processing infrastructure and market access for farmers.
Transforming Bamboo into High-Quality Building Materials
In the article, we discussed how We Do Bamboo is focused on local production using sustainably sourced bamboo from Kenyan farmers. Our production line starts with Bamboo Plastic Composite (BPC) products, including decking, cladding, and fluted wall panels.
Looking ahead, we’ll soon expand into laminated bamboo boards and beams, offering sustainable alternatives to traditional materials like timber.

Sustainability at the Core
The feature also highlighted our commitment to environmental sustainability, including our use of recycled plastics in BPC production and our support for local employment and smallholder farmers.
Arthur shared that while bamboo products may carry a slightly higher initial cost compared to softwoods like pine, the long-term savings on maintenance and replacement, combined with the environmental benefits, make bamboo the smarter choice.

Bamboo’s Global Momentum and Kenya’s Role
The article placed our work in a global context, referencing major bamboo projects in China, Vietnam, and even Madrid’s airport terminal ceiling, showing that bamboo is fast becoming a mainstream building material worldwide. We’re proud that Kenya is now part of this movement, thanks in part to local innovators, farmers, and businesses like We Do Bamboo.
Final Thoughts
Being featured in the Daily Nation is a milestone for our team, but more importantly, it’s a sign that Kenya is ready for sustainable, locally produced bamboo solutions.
We invite all architects, developers, farmers, and sustainability advocates to join us on this journey.
